The Dhaka Dynasty
Tucked along Walsgrave Road in Coventry, The Dhaka Dynasty is the kind of place you stumble upon once and keep coming back to. Whether you're a seasoned curry lover or just craving a proper Chicken Thali after a long day, this spot knows how to hit all the right notes. The first thing that strikes you isn’t the décor-it’s the aroma. From the moment you step in (or even before you walk through the door), the rich scent of spices, grilled meats, and simmering sauces welcomes you like an old friend.
Let’s talk food, because that’s what The Dhaka Dynasty is all about. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Naan combo? It’s the crowd-pleaser. Creamy, slightly sweet, and perfectly balanced with spice, the tikka here is full of flavor without overwhelming your tastebuds. Then there’s the Lamb Bhuna Gosht-slow-cooked, deeply spiced, and tender enough to melt with a nudge of your fork. If you’re looking to switch it up from the classic curry route, the Chicken or Prawn Omelette is surprisingly satisfying, especially when you want something a bit lighter but still infused with spice.
Their Mixed Biryani deserves a paragraph of its own. This isn’t just rice and meat tossed together-it’s layers of seasoned rice, tender chunks of lamb and chicken, fragrant whole spices, and a hit of saffron that makes each bite feel like a celebration. Pair that with a cold beer-yes, they serve a decent selection, from mainstream lagers to house picks-and you’ve got yourself a proper evening meal.
The menu doesn’t shy away from variety either. From Shami Kebabs to Chilli Chicken, there’s always something bold to try. Even the more niche options like Ossobuco make an appearance, showcasing the restaurant’s willingness to offer fusion and flair. And if you’re a sweet tooth? Don't skip dessert-their homemade specials (especially the kulfi and traditional puddings) are a delightful way to end a spicy meal.
The Dhaka Dynasty isn’t just for groups or couples-it’s also great for solo diners, especially those looking for a quiet evening with a hot meal and maybe a brandy or two. They serve late-night food, so it’s a solid go-to when you’ve worked late or your delivery apps just don’t cut it. Speaking of which, they do offer no-contact delivery, takeaway, and dine-in options, giving diners flexibility.
One thing to note though: accessibility isn't its strong suit. There's no wheelchair-accessible entrance or seating, which might be a limitation for some. It’s something to consider if mobility is a concern. That aside, the cozy indoor setting, warm lighting, and gentle hum of conversation make it feel more like a local favorite than a chain trying too hard.
What sets The Dhaka Dynasty apart isn’t just the food (though, let’s be real, that’s a huge part of it). It’s the consistency. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold but balanced, and the team keeps things running smoothly without ever feeling rushed. The staff are friendly, quick to recommend dishes if you're unsure, and they manage to keep the service personal even when the restaurant’s buzzing.
It’s also worth mentioning that they serve halal food, alcohol, coffee, beer, and wine, making it versatile for different dining preferences. Whether you're out with mates, treating yourself to some late-night biryani, or grabbing takeaway for the family, The Dhaka Dynasty has a menu (and vibe) that works.
Located in Coventry’s CV2 area, it’s easy to reach, and for those nearby, it quickly becomes a regular on the weekly food rotation. If you're around Walsgrave Road and craving something satisfying, spice-packed, and soul-warming, this is where you want to be.
Reviews
The service was excellent. The staff are attentive, friendly and really want to make sure you have a really delicious, enjoyable meal. The food was fantastic. Tasty, superb layering of spices, fresh, not at all oily. Given it was a quiet midweek evening, I expected pre-prepared, re-warmed up sauces, but no. Just fantastic. Please move to Hull, we really would appreciate you up here!
Back in 2024 for the new owners. Had the Daka special. Meal really good. Say hi tn Ziggy! Been here with daughter. I've been eating here since opening i think. In the days of drinking and living in the area. A family run restaurant, great service every time, staff really friendly and polite. So today we called in, food was amazing. Indian chicken dish and lamb. Prices have just gone up but great value as always. All the best to the staff. Cheers.
Myself and my friend had the most wonderful meal here Friday evening. The staff were increadible, making us feel welcome, and the service was impeccable. Southern Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken was wonderful. I hadn't been there for many years as I'd moved away from Coventry on business, but how lovely it was to be back. Top marks. Thank you all. Chris & TB.
